The Kohala Club Hotel is located in Kapaau, a small town in North Kohala, on the Northern tip of the Big Island of Hawaii. North Kohala was once a thriving sugar cane community and is an area of the Big Island that is among the least explored by visitors. A drive north on Highway 270 from the Big Island's western port town of Kawaihae takes you past Lapakahi State Historical Park, the birth site of Kamehameha I and Mo'okini Heiau, through the quiet towns of Hawi and Kapa'au to the beautiful Pololu Valley Overlook.

Directions
Drive one hour north of the Keahole Airport near Kailua-Kona, to the northern tip of the Big Island. Take highway 19 until you pass Hapuna State Beach Park, mile marker 69, and approximately one mile after Hapuna, Highway 19 veers inland towards ranch land and the paniolo town of Waimea. Instead of following Highway 19, bear left onto Highway 270 as the signs point to Kawaihae. When you arrive in Kawaihae, turn right and follow signs for Hawi. The road to North Kohala, on Highway 270, is a beautiful drive of ocean and Maui views which takes you past historical sites like Lapakahi State Historical site and King Kamehameha I's birthplace. The first small town you will pass through on your way to the hotel is Hawi, located at mile marker 21. The Kohala Club Hotel is located on your left just before you enter the town of Kapaau, right before mile marker 23. The address is 54-3793 Akoni Pule Highway. We have a sign hanging over our driveway entrance. The hotel is a beautiful, lush garden retreat and offers Hawaiian island style accommodations with cable TV at very reasonable rates.
